About us: A West Flemish Family Story

A passion for over 50 years

From a young age, Jackie Pommé sold ice cream on Belgian beaches as a part-time student. Since you had to be at least 21 to start a business back then, he married Diana Chamon in March 1977 to make this dream come true sooner. Two days later, their first ice cream truck was a reality! A few years later, he invested in his first truck under the name Roomijs Pommé. He used it to make house calls to customers, initially selling ice cream, but the assortment was soon expanded to include frozen vegetables, fries, and other frozen products. The name no longer fit the business: it was time for the next step.

1985

Pom'Deli

In the mid-1980s, the product line continued to expand, and the company no longer limited itself to ice cream alone. A new brand identity was developed: Pom'Deli. To quickly increase brand awareness, Jackie partnered with numerous sports clubs. This led to rapid growth in the customer base, making it necessary to hire the first employees.

1988

NV Pommé

NV Pommé was founded in 1988. Jackie began as the exclusive importer of Mövenpick ice cream for the hospitality industry. The combination of high-quality products, personalized service, and a strong distribution network ensured that both the retail and commercial customer bases continued to grow. To support that growth, Jackie invested in a new frozen-food warehouse with a capacity of approximately 1,000 pallet spaces.

2009

Introduction Menorquina

A new entrepreneurial story began in late 2009. Nick Pommé, the son of, wanted to build his own business, while Jackie was asked to introduce the Spanish premium ice cream brand Menorquina-Kalise to Belgium.

2010

Mekabe BV.

This led to the founding of Mekabe BV in January 2010, named after the Menorquina-Kalise brand. Within Mekabe, father and son complemented each other perfectly. Nick focused on developing the foodservice market, while Jackie leveraged his network for distribution through wholesalers. Thanks to this complementary partnership, Mekabe was able to successfully position itself from the start as a distributor of premium frozen desserts for both the foodservice industry and the wholesale market.

2023

Proper workshop

Nick Pommé takes the helm. The former bedrooms of his parents’ home are transformed into the first production space. Today, we operate out of a modern food production facility in Diksmuide. With a team of 24 passionate employees and the strategic support of Firefly Ventures, we continue to grow and innovate. Despite this growth, our core remains unchanged: West Flemish down-to-earthness combined with gastronomic ambition.
